Ladies and Gentlemen:
First of all I would like to welcome you all to this little reception. On behalf of the Icelandic Government I would like to introduce to you a new legislation which aims to enhance domestic culture and promote the history and nature of Iceland by temporarily supporting motion pictures and television programmes produced in Iceland.
Producers can apply for reimbursements of 12% of the production costs incurred in the production of films and tv programmes in Iceland. I would also want to point out that films can be distrubuted through Icelandic International Trading Companies with 5% corporate income tax. Film producers can benefit by having an ITC receive their distribution rights and/or copyrights.
In Iceland we have highly professional film crews, and have produced 5 to 6 pictures per year for the last few years. International movies have also been made in Iceland in cooperation with local production companies. The movie "No such thing" is a good excample. It will be one of the first movies to get reimbursement based on the new legislation.
In Iceland you find a unique landscape; the black deserts, geothermal hot springs, volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, lagoons filled with icebergs and I could go on and on. We have very mild winters and a 24 hour daylight through june and july.
