Panel 2: Commemoration of the International Day of Women in Diplomacy focusing on
overcoming barriers to women’s leadership in peace processes
Statement delivered by Denmark on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic States
24 June 2025

President,

I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic States.

We meet at a time when the world faces unprecedented levels of armed conflict and human rights violations, and where women and girls often pay the highest price. Yet, women remain significantly underrepresented in peace and security efforts. We therefore welcome this timely opportunity to commemorate the International Day of Women in Diplomacy and address the structural barriers hindering women’s leadership in peace processes.

This year, we mark the 25th anniversary of Security Council resolution 1325, a landmark resolution which recognized the indispensable role of women in lasting peace and security. Despite progress, much remains to be done to translate this commitment into tangible results.

We stress the urgent need to accelerate efforts towards ensuring women’s full, equal and meaningful participation and leadership, thereby advancing the full and effective realisation of all human rights, gender equality and sustainable peace globally.

We stand ready to support and advance these essential goals.

Dear panellists, how can we best address the structural inequalities that hinder women´s participation in peace processes?

Thank you.
