Iceland at the Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum 2023

Iceland was highlighted as Country of Honour at the Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum, that began on the 6th of September 2023. As an important platform for exchanges and cooperation on smart energy, clean energy, energy security and energy cooperation, Taiyuan Forum has attracted over 3,000  participants, including public officials, investors, executives, academics and technicians from all over China.

Icelandic clean energy technology and low carbon development was promoted on various occasions throughout the opening-day of the Taiyuan Forum, including a video address by Mr. Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Climate, at the Opening Ceremony, the pursuant key-note speech by Ambassador Thorir Ibsen and his meeting with Mr. Lan Fo'an, Party Secretary of Shanxi and a number of interviews with local media, as well as a special event dedicated to Iceland, namely: “The Iceland Story – Solutions for Transition toward Zero-Carbon Society” led the 11 sub-forums and 2 feature events during the 3-day session.

The special event “The Iceland Story – Solutions for Transition toward Zero-Carbon Society”, jointly organized by the Embassy of Iceland in Beijing and Shanxi Foreign Affairs Office, impressed the more than 170 audience with  presentations from Green by Iceland, Arctic Green Energy and Carbon Recycling International.  Representatives of relevant Shanxi provincial departments, geological bureau, and local banks were also present to brief on supportive policies and financial products that are conducive to the initiatives of Icelandic companies pursuing low carbon projects in Shanxi.

Invited panelists from Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, private financing and Shanxi governmental departments and financial institutions also shared with the audience their insights on Iceland-Shanxi cooperation in geothermal and local carbon sector.
