New Permanent Representative of Iceland to the United Nations

Ambassador Jörundur Valtýsson and Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York today. Discussions on Arctic affairs and climate change were high on the agenda, as the UN Climate Action Summit will be held in NY later this month. They also discussed the agenda of the upcoming UN General Assembly, implementation of the SDGs, human rights and Iceland's work within the UN Human Rights Council, as Iceland holds a seat on the Council until the end of the year. 

Discussions also focused on Iceland's priorities within the UN, including oceans affairs, sustainable resource utilization, land restoration and gender equality. Next year, the UN celebrates its 75th anniversary and the Secretary-General and Permanent Representative also discussed preparations of this milestone event.
